Background

Here is a bit of background about myself.

I am an artist currently working in Edinburgh and am based at the Coburg Art Studios in Leith. I moved to Scotland from Ireland in 2003. I lived in Ireland for over 20 years after graduating from Nottingham College of Art.

In Dublin my main medium was printmaking, especially stone lithography. I was a member of the Black Church Print Studio and I exhibited in group exhibitions in many venues throughout Ireland in the 1980s and 90s. I also exhibited at some of the juried exhibitions such as the Royal Hibernian Academy, an tOireachtas, and Impressions Print exhibition. Noted shows include New Irish Printmakers at the Butler Gallery, Kilkenny Castle in 1989 and the International Large format Printmaking exhibition, Guinness Hop Store in 1991.

I was a Prizewinner at the ‘Impressions' Print exhibition, Galway 1989. I was a visiting lecturer to the National College of Art and Design, Fine Art Printmaking Department in 1990 and 1997 running lithography workshops for undergraduates

In Ireland I was also involved, in an organisational capacity, in a variety of cultural projects. I was one of the main organisers of the Irish International Miniprint exhibition in 1986. I was also a key person in organising the ‘Art Bulletin Magazine’ for the Artists’ Association of Ireland from 1990 to 2001. This was a magazine aimed at professional artists.

From 1993 to 2001 I was also key member of a team which published History Ireland magazine.

My move to Edinburgh in 2002/03 was a result of being involved in a project to publish History Scotland magazine.

Moving to Scotland also reinvigorated my artistic aspirations after a break of over ten years. As a first step I joined the Edinburgh Printmakers Studio. However, after attending a summer school at Edinburgh College of Art I decided to develop painting as a main discipline. I then attended the one year, full time Advanced Painting course at Leith School of Art.
